Amsterdam
B
font>ob and Mim Phillips are
serving in Amsterdam. God is using them to bring the Good News to non-Christians and to be a support/encouragment to the local church.
In a recent message they talk about the challenges they face...
"Amsterdam has 734,000 people from 170 different nationalities. About 46% are immigrants. There is a high proportion of young adults, 25-39 years old, and relatively few children, teenagers, and elderly. There are about 400,000 households in the city. One third of adult Amsterdammers are single. The vast majority of working people have a job in the service sector. Amsterdam has the characteristic massiveness, heterogeneity, mobility and complexity of all big cities, but the added dimension of the charm of its history (canals, windmills, art museums) and the tragedy of its permissiveness (open prostitution and drugs).
Only about 3% of Amsterdammers attend a church; more than half are Roman Catholic; more than half are African immigrants. Most of the few remaining protestant congregations are very elderly and theologically very liberal. There ARE 'on-fire Christians' here, but very few."
Bob and Mim are on the verge of grandparenthood as their daughter Joy and her husband Henk look forward to their first child.
Please send a note of encouragement and let them know you are praying for them and the work in Amsterdam. You can send them E-Mail by clicking on their picture above.
