We have come to the end of another series. I hope that we have encountered Kingdom Life in our everyday lives—that we have allowed the Divine to enter in. The words of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount, particularly the Beatitudes, give us characteristics of what followers of Jesus are to look like and act like. The Beatitudes also give their correlating blessings.
These BLESSING all say that God is for you! This is Good News, especially as we head into our last Beatitude #8. “Blessed are those who are persecuted, for righteousness sake, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.” If there is ever a time to know that God has your back, it is in persecution and suffering. It should not seem strange, though, that the progression from “peacemaking” which was last week’s Beatitude, leads us into our final descent: Persecution.
