Steve Mann is rejoining us for a powerful message on the sixth Beatitude found in the Sermon on the Mount: God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God. Have you ever felt like God cares more about our “report card” rather than the motivations of our heart? Have you ever written an unspoken letter like the one below?
Pure. You really mean pure?!? You expect me to be pure? I want to know you. I want to be close to you. But pure God. I can’t be pure. I’m not pure. You of all people know I’m not pure. It’s not that I’m a horrible person. I can think of plenty of people who are worse than me. But, pure, Jesus? I can’t live up to that standard. You say I need to be pure to see you God? I want that. I want to see you. But that bar is just too high for me. I wouldn’t say this to the other Christians here at church, but here in my quiet prayers I can. Here in the dark quiet of my bed, I’m just going to be honest with you and say I don’t know if I can live up to that standard.
